Does Odoo performance require PostgreSQL tuning?

At what point does Odoo require PostgreSQL tuning for reliable performance, or can the default configuration handle real-world workloads?

Odoo performs really well out of the box for small teams. We started using it without touching PostgreSQL settings, and for basic sales, inventory, and accounting, everything was smooth. It’s impressive how much you can do without complex setup.

The default PostgreSQL configuration is intentionally conservative, which is actually a good thing. It allows Odoo to run safely in many environments. Tuning becomes helpful only when your usage grows, not because Odoo is inefficient, but because it’s doing more work as your data and users increase.
