FSMO:- Before we jump into the FSMO roles, we need to understand what FSMO is.? So, the FSMO stands for Flexible Single Master Operations, or we can say Single Master Operation or Operations., it’s a feature given by Microsoft‘s Active Directory. It’s a domain controller task used when the data transfer and update methods are inadequate. Some functions unsuitable for multi-master replication only suit the single master operations. The single master held several operators of multimaster models. A single master or domain controller has a role in a particular operation. And these operation masters are called flexible single-master operations.
There are some roles of FSMO in Windows Server.
    1. Schema Master FSMO:- The schema master FSMO role is manager, read and write copy of your Active Directory Schema. It defines all the attributes and things like ID, Phone-no, and Email address so that you can apply them as an object in the database
    2. Domain Naming Master FSMO:- The Domain Naming Master FSMO ensures you don’t create a second domain in the same directory with the same name. It is a master of your domain names. From all the other roles, this role is used for living on the same DC with some other role.
    3. RID Master FSMO:- Relative Master ID role is assigned the block for Security Identifiers for different DCs. So they can be used for newly created objects. Every project has its own SID; the last four digits of SIDs are for the Relative portion.
    4. PDC Emulator FSMO Role:- The Primary Domain Controller Emulator's role is to respond to authentication requests, change passwords, and manage the group policy objects. And the PDC Emulator tells everyone what time it is! So having a PDC emulator is good.
    5. Infrastructure Master FSMO:- It will translate the Globally Unique Identifiers and SIDs and Distinguished Names between two domains. If you have more than one domain in your active directory, the Infrastructure master is to create a bridge between them. And if the Infrastructure Master fails to do its job correctly, you’ll see that the SID comes in place of resolved names in your Access Control List.
