Re: Virtual Server Vs Dedicated Server
A virtual dedicated server V.D.S. aka V.P.S. is a semi private server - you share the resources cpu and ram with a few others. A dedicated server is a private server - all of the cpu and ram is yours to use.
Performance wise go with a dedicated server. There are many quality companies that I would choose over GD.Last edited by admin; 11-18-2011, 01:27 AM.

Re: Virtual Server Vs Dedicated Server
A virtual server is a server, for example a Web server or an application server, that shares computer resources with other virtual servers. In this context, the virtual part simply means that it is not a dedicated server, that is, the entire computer is not dedicated to running the server software. A Virtual Private Server or a virtual dedicated server is a type of virtualization that enables a virtual server, which is a shared resource and not a dedicated server, to work and act as if it were a dedicated server. Virtual dedicated server technology allows owners to share the costs with other users, and hence, is cheaper. Each virtual dedicated server has its own disk space, bandwidth, CPU allocation, memory, and operating system. VPS hosting bridges the gap between shared hosting and dedicated hosting services, and is cheaper than dedicated hosting.
A dedicated server is a computer in a network reserved or dedicated for serving a specific need. For example, a network may require that one computer be set aside to manage communications between all the other computers. A dedicated server could also be a computer that manages printer resources. In the Web or application hosting business, a dedicated server is a type of Internet hosting in which the client rents an entire server not shared with anyone.
