Selecting a Web Hosting Operating System

    Hello Friends

I would like share following OS while choosing any web hosting companies, I hope those will help you!

While looking for a web hosting provider then one of the first things that you often have to consider is what operating system the server will run on. Different web hosting providers use different operating systems to host the websites.

*Linux - Linux is one of the most widely used operating systems on the Web. It is also widely preferred by the web hosting service providers. This is mostly because it is so cheap to install and get up and running.
*Macintosh - Macintosh web hosting servers are very uncommon. In fact, if you want to host your site on a Macintosh server then you will probably have to look into web hosting your site yourself.
*Unix - Unix is very much alike Linux but still is not as common on web hosting services. This is so because it is more expensive and the hardware is also more specific.
*Windows - Windows is another very common operating system used for Web hosting services, mainly because it has a lot of support.

If you use the popular web design program, Microsoft Front Page, having a Windows Hosting platform will make your life a lot easier. You won't have to worry about making sure your server supports extensions, as you would with a Unix platform.

Not only Operating System but also the control panel. I have seen hosting providers have their own control panel if not cPanel, Plesk and {DNP} Dot Net Panel they are most widely used control panels. I personally vote cPanel/WHM for it's user friendly features which makes your task easy.

Linux supports a wide range of software, applications, languages, and databases such as PHP, Perl, PostGre, MySQL, PostgreSQL and many others making it very scalable. On the downside, Linux is not fully compatible with some Microsoft technologies so if you are using Access, ASP, MS SQL, or VB development tools then Windows would be a better bet.

This is one of the good information for selecting a web hosting operating system such as my point of view the best is Linux is one of the most widely used operating systems on the Web. It is also widely preferred by the web hosting service providers. This is mostly because it is so cheap to install and get up and running.
