AI bots are much smarter now, so basic CAPTCHA alone isn’t enough. I’ve had better results using a combination of a Web Application Firewall (WAF), bot behavior analysis, and rate limiting at the server level. Blocking suspicious patterns early helps reduce load before WordPress even processes the request.

Traditional CAPTCHAs are much less effective now. CAPTCHA-free bot challenges that rely on behavior scoring or proof-of-work have worked better, especially when handled at the CDN or firewall level.
