WordPress will probably lean more into structured data and block-based content. SGE relies heavily on well-structured information, and WordPress already has a strong foundation with Gutenberg blocks.

WordPress isn’t changing its core software to match Google’s SGE, and honestly, it doesn’t need to. What WordPress is doing is giving publishers enough flexibility to implement Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) on their own terms. With blocks, custom fields, schema plugins, and AI-ready SEO extensions, users can shape content that works better for conversational search and AI summaries.

Yeah, SGE doesn’t require WordPress to overhaul anything. The real adaptation is happening through plugins built for structured data, FAQs, entities, and rich snippets. These tools help content get picked up in AI-generated answers. So instead of WordPress rewriting itself, publishers are just stacking the right plugins and refining content formats that SGE prefers.
