WordPress site stuck in maintenance mode

Why is my WordPress site stuck in maintenance mode after a plugin update?

It happens sometimes when you accidentally close your browser tab while WordPress is running an update; it can leave your site in maintenance mode or break the process. So always wait until the update fully finishes before navigating away.

When WordPress goes into maintenance mode during an update, it creates a file called .maintenance in your website’s root folder. Sometimes, this file doesn’t get removed after the update finishes, which can leave your site stuck in maintenance mode.

To fix it, just delete the .maintenance file using an FTP client or your hosting control panel.

Before updating WordPress, please check the following to avoid your site getting stuck in maintenance mode:
        1. Avoid Bulk Updates
Updating too many plugins or themes at once can overload the system and lead to errors. Instead, update them one by one or in small groups as new versions become available. This reduces the risk of issues and helps you quickly spot any conflicts.
        2. Check Compatibility
Always verify that the plugin or theme you’re updating is compatible with your current version of WordPress. You can find this info right in your dashboard. Checking compatibility first can prevent your site from breaking due to version conflicts.
