The Linux Server is open source system and it won't required the license but Window Server required the license as well as Linux server having better stability, speed and control panel as compare to the Windows Server.

Re: Differentiate between Linux Hosting and windows hosting

All websites today currently run on either a Windows web server or a Linux-based server. The vast majority of websites run on a Linux-based platform as Linux has a strong reputation for security and web server performance. With standard (static) HTML-based websites, the web hosting platform doesn't make much difference.

Re: Differentiate between Linux Hosting and windows hosting

Linux and Windows are the operating systems which are used on your servers. Linux is an open source os and windows is owned by Microsoft.

Linux is preferred by many due to it being cheaper and effective. Windows is costlier due to license fees but it supports many applications specifically made for it like ASP.
Both have their own pros and cons.

Both UNIX and Microsoft server are operating systems. The Windows server and UNIX are for the most part used as enterprise application servers that are essential for different purposes including, but not constrained to email, web and even database hosting. The Windows server was made by Microsoft subsequently picking up the head role in their software solutions. Concerning UNIX, it was considered as an open framework in which its source code is accessible to public. Simply observe that both operating systems are perfect for web hosting. It is critical to take in the contrasts between the two so you can pick sagaciously.

Both OS are good for the specific purposes they serve. If you are planning to host a simple custom website and prefer to have an affordable, yet reliable experience - go for Linux

Otherwise, if you required to run .NET applications and need ASP, go for Windows option as Linux won't support it. All things considered, Linux is a far better-rounded option.
