If you want full control and strong security, hosting Vaultwarden on a VPS is one of the safest choices. You get your own environment, so you can configure the OS, firewall, and Docker exactly how you want. I run it in Docker on a small VPS and it’s been super stable.

For me, the biggest benefit of using a VPS for Vaultwarden is controlled isolation.
You can:

• Run the container with limited privileges
• Keep only the required ports open
• Restrict SSH access to keys
• Enable a firewall like UFW

This keeps the environment clean and reduces risk.
