How do you upgrade from windows XP to Windows Server 2003?

I need to install windows server 2003 on a computer that currently has windows XP installed on it. When I go to install windows server, an error message comes up saying that I can not upgrade from xp to server 2003. When I try to do a clean install, a blue screen error message comes up saying that a problem has occurced, the computer was shut dow to prevent damage to your computer. Any Ideas?

I am just about to set up a home server that i will install windows server 2003 on.

I am planning on using a fairly old pc, that is no longer used but yet still does perform very well and meets all the system requirements of windows server 2003

My question is whether or not i can install server 2003 over the top of windowx xp and then not have to reinstall the drivers on the computer.

If not - could you give me a brief description of how i would have to install indows server 2003, and where i could get drivers and the like.

well i would recommend that you should format your hard disk's C drive where the old windows is installed and then install windows server 2003. This will refresh your system and enhance the speed as well but remember you need to install all the drivers in this case which must be available on you Driver's CD.

I think Windows xp can't upgraded to 2003. Because 2003 is server edition,but xp is professional edition.
