You don't have to host a smtp server by yourself, but your email has to go thru one.

Well you can connect directly to the SMTP server using sockets to connect to it and sending the commands you need to do. Your second issue can be resolved by unchecking the 'Enable debugging' check box on the admin settings form (admin/settings/smtp). That you connect thru a remote server via telnet, use a web-based mail client, your request always end to be processed by a smtp server. You don't have to host a smtp server by yourself, but your email has to go thru one.

Never mind. It appears to have been a problem with the plugin. I found a different one and it is working fine.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried that, and it is still not working.

Need help with SMTP for Contact Us page

I have installed WordPress 2.7 and have it fully functional. I am trying to set up a Contact Us page using the cformsII plugin. I have used the following SMTP settings:
    server: smtpDOT<domain>DOTcom
    secure connection: no
    Port: 25
username: <email address associated with this domain>
    password: <email address password>

I have had no success in getting the emails to send. Hosting is on Win 2003 (Mid Plan).
I am also seeking insight from the WordPress community. I am posting here to make sure I am using the correct settings, and see if I maybe missing something.
Working...
