    Changing name server problems

I have been attempting to change my name servers to:
    ns1.linuxserver29.com: 67.15.230.108
    ns2.linuxserver29.com: 67.15.230.109

however, I keep recieving the message :"ERROR: Errors modifying nameservers: Updating nameservers failed. Please try again.421."

I am copying exactly what the email said. I was able to change them to only:
    ns1.linuxserver29.com
    ns2.linuxserver29.com
but I cannot enter the IP address after that. Am I doing something wrong? Please help!!

You have need to change them either by IP address or by name only. You have to just enter like:

    ns1.linuxserver29.com
    ns2.linuxserver29.com
    OR
    67.15.230.108
    67.15.230.109

Hope this will resolve your issue.

      Re: Changing name server problems

The service you purchased may include such features as domain forwarding, email, and a web site. Replacing Yahoo!'s name servers will render these features inactive. However, changing your name servers will not automatically cancel your service. You will continue to manage your WHOIS contact information through Yahoo!, and Yahoo! will continue to renew your annual domain registration.

Please note: Any changes that you make to your advanced DNS settings can interrupt your service. If you are not an advanced user, we strongly recommend that you not change these settings.

You can change your name servers using the "Change Name Servers" area of your Domain Control Panel.

If you are getting an "Unavailable Error" at the registrar that's exactly what it means - the names servers are not available/not reachable not working. Have you set them up??

          Re: Changing name server problems

Try to ping nameservers which you are trying to update for your domain and if you receive correct ip address in ping result then set rdns for nameserevr and try to update nameservers for your domain.

          Hope it will help you.

Note : Not sure but now a days many domain name registrar require rdns for nameserver ip as well.

The only time you would have to mess with create a CNAME record is if you are mapping a sub domain. If you are mapping a top level domain name, you do not do this. You only change the main DNS records to point to wordpress .COM so that people can be directed here and to your blog.

I would say better you can take help of your hosting provider. They will help you well.

                Re: Changing name server problems

Simply contact the domain name registrar and ask them to update the nameserver for you and if they face any issue than contact the hosting provider to resolve the nameservers related issue.

I had initially used ns1.nsserver123.com as the nameserver on the new server but I changed my mind and tried changing everthing to ns1.totalinternethost.com which was the same as the old one. I did this to illiminate having to change the namservers on about 100 domains.

You cannot use the name of the server and its IP address as one for naming the server.
You can either use the name or the IP address or the name. Not both.
