Hello Annie_P,
A domain Name System (DNS) is a system that translates human-readable domain names into IP addresses. In other words, it lets you surf the web using easy-to-remember domain names. However, DNS servers sometimes fail to respond to requests, resulting in the "DNS Server Not Responding" error.
The error can also appear when the browser fails to establish a connection to the internet. Typically, DNS errors are caused by user-end crises, whether with a network or internet connection, misconfigured DNS settings, DNS cache, or an outdated browser.
However, you can follow the below workarounds to fix the issue:
Perform Windows Network Diagnostics:
- Firstly, navigate Start > Control panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
- Now, select the Troubleshoot problems option under Change your networking settings.
- Lastly, click on Additional troubleshooters > Internet Connections > Run the troubleshooter.
Boot into the Safe Mode:
- Firstly, log in to your computer with admin rights.
- Now, click Start, then open the Run window. Type msconfig in the window and press Enter.
- Then, click the Boot button in the Systems Configuration dialog, and then click Safe Boot.
- Next, check the Minimal option, and click OK to save changes.
- Lastly, click the Restart button to reboot your system on the pop-up window.
Once your computer enters Safe Mode, try reaccessing your website to check whether the issue persists. If the issue persists, you can follow the following steps,
Change DNS server Address:
- Firstly, press the Win logo + R keys to open the Run dialog.
- Now, type control and press Enter to open the control panel.
- Next, locate Network and Sharing Center and click to open.
- Then, click on the Change adapter settings option on the left side.
- Now, right-click on Local Area Connection or Ethernet, and click properties.
- Next, locate and click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then Properties.
- Then, tick the "Obtain an IP address automatically" & "Obtain DNS server address automatically" options. Then click OK.
You can also try changing the address to access the network,
- Later, click on the Properties option in the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)."
- Now, In the Preferred DNS server, type "8.8.8.8," and in the Alternate DNS server, type "8.8.4.4".
- Next, check the "Validate settings upon exit" option and click OK
- Lastly, restart your system and try to access the website.
Clear the DNS cache:
- Firstly, navigate tothe Start menu and type cmd.
- Now, right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Then, type the below command and press Enter.
Code:
ipconfig /flushdns
- Lastly, restart your system to check for the error.
Thus, by implementing the above workarounds, you can fix the issue. However, if the issue persists, you can also try the following methods to fix the issue,
Try using a different browser.
Temporarily disabling the firewall.
Update the Network Adapter Driver.
Restart your Modem or Router
I hope the ways mentioned above help you to fix the "DNS Server Not Responding" error.
