The Parts that Make a Web Site Shine

Your website is an important marketing tool for you.  Because of that, it should send out the right message so as to convince potential clients to avail of your services.  You should make sure that the key elements of your web site design blend together harmoniously so that it would shine far and bright.

The most important part of your website is the home page.  If first impressions do last, then take heed because your home page is the first glimpse your customers get of you.  It should tell your visitors in no uncertain terms what your web site is about and what your business actually offers.  The navigation buttons should be easy to find and should be located where people have been accustomed to finding them.  This would ensure that your visitors would find it easy to explore your site and get to know you better.  The home page should only contain the most important information.  Relegate all the secondary information to linked web pages.  Cluttering up your home page with too much information may tire your clients and make them decide to just up and leave.

The text type, color and size are also important components of a web site design.  The text you finally choose should be easy to read and understand.  Do not choose the text type mainly for aesthetics.  The text contains your message so though it should be beautiful to look at, it should primarily be understandable.  The text color should complement the background and the general color scheme of your web site.  It would be awful to have text that clashes terribly with your theme.  Lastly, you should have enough text to be informative but not so much that it’s boring.

Graphics are a very important part of a web design.  Graphics, if used well could very well spell the difference between your customers liking your website and hating it.  These should be sized right and placed appropriately in your layout.  Their subject should be relevant to your page.  You cannot just go and use a picture of a park scene that you like if it has no bearing at all to your web site’s message.  You would also do well to remember that more graphics does not necessarily mean a better web site.  It could just mean a web site designed in poor taste.

How fast or slow your web site loads is one other important thing to think about.  You should make sure that your file is not so big as to take eons to download.  You should also ensure that speed will not be an issue with your web server.  After all, how good is a web site if people just gave up on it before seeing it?

Finally, you should view your finished website prior to launching it.  It should be checked against all the usual browsers so that you can be sure it is viewable, whatever the browser is, and that you will not lose potential customers because they could not see your web site properly.
