Linux Hosting First Contact

Are you a Web designer with little or no knowledge of Linux Hosting, if this is the case relax, as most experts do not know that more than 60%
of all websites run on Linux.  In this article you will be formally introduced to Linux Hosting.

Linux is an operating system that evolved from a
kernel created by Linus Torvalds when he was a student at the University of Helsinki. Generally, it is clear to most people what Linux is. However, for a number of reasons it must be explained a little more both for political and practical reasons. To say that Linux is an operating system means that it's meant to be used as an alternative to other more recognisable operating systems like MS-DOS, the various versions of MS Windows, Mac OS, Solaris and others. Also with more study you will find that Linux is not a program like a word processor and is not a set of programs like an office suite.

Linux is Open Source, which means anyone can get access to the underlying source code and modify it free of charge.
Linux is not only free but also very stable and secure, leading it to become very popular with web hosting companies today. Linux, the open source operating system, is highly regarded as one of the main key operating system in the future of e-business.

A kernel as referred to previously
is the core or nucleus of an operating system providing a way for software and other parts of the operating system to communicate with a computer's hardware successfully.

To use a metaphor, if you go to your favourite Italian restaurant and order 'Spaghetti alla Bolognese', this dish is like your operating system. There are a lot of things that go into making that dish like pasta, tomato sauce, meatballs and cheese. Well, the kernel is like the pasta. Without pasta, that dish doesn't exist.

You might as well find some bread and make a sandwich. A plate of just pasta is fairly unappetizing. Without a kernel, an operating system doesn't exist. Without programs, a kernel is useless.
